The Nicodemus park was established when the township hall was built in the late 1930s. The youth at that time, under the leadership of 4-H Leader Blance White. Elm trees were planted for beautification and later a water well and a slide were installed. Other outdoor park features include: Covered seating and barbecue pits and in recent years, two horseshoe pits were installed and the gazebo moved from the southside of the park on Washington Avenue.
After Nicodemus' destination as a Historic Landmark District in 1976 and National Historic Site in 1996, markers and wayside interpretative signs were installed along the frontage road. The Highway 24 Tourism Alliance sign is also installed there. The Historic Township Tour sign and map is the most recent addition to the historic markers.
The park has been used since its creation to host various public events. When the Emancipation Celebration moved from the Scruggs Grove in the 1940s, the Park surrounding the Township Hall has been the Site of most of the festivities. A playground with slide, merry-go-round, etc. Was installed on the southwest corner of the block to accommodate more children activities.
